Public Service Flatcar #5223

  • 1917

    • Public Service Railway Company built car 2683, at their Newark (Plank Road) Shops in July 1917. It was part of a second group of fifty compromise roofs cars built by PSR between June 1917 and Aug 1917.

  • 1953

    • July 31, 1953: Passenger car converted to double ended flat car for service on the Newark City Subway.

    • December 21, 1953: Trolley loop installed at Franklin Avenue negating the need for double ended cars.

  • 1954 (approximately)

    • Rear platform is removed making 2683 a single ended car.

  • 2013

    • Car is acquired by NJERHS after its retirement from the Newark City Subway.

  • 2018

    • January 25, 2018: Car arrives at Kinkisharyo International in Piscataway, for future preservation.
