This portion of the www.njerhs.org provides a running account of the progress being made by the North Jersey Electric Railway Historical Society in restoring Public Service Car 2651. Work sessions are scheduled and this schedule can be found on our Events page. Anyone interested in helping with the work is welcome to join our organization in efforts to restore this New Jersey treasure. We can honestly say that 2651 once again is a double ended car
				The "west" end of 2651 with the end back in place and the bonnet/roof being positioned. The car now has working headlights at both ends. The steel around the headlight is new and has been primed.
		This series of photos shows the work that has been done on the letter board. The letter board on the "North West" side of the car had been damaged by years of rot and had actually started to grow some fungus on the inside of the wood. In the top photo a circular saw is used to make a slice into the letter board to remove the piece of the wood with the rot. Not the entire piece of wood is being removed. The second photo shows the first trial cut "1" test for depth, and the actual cut "2". The boards around the cuts were used as a fence for the saw. The third and last picture in the series shows the letter board with the rotten portion removed. All of these photos taken October 19, 2002.
			This series of photos shows the replacement piece being prepared for placement on 2651. The wood being used is Mahogany. The first photo shows the piece being tried in the place where it will soon call home. Once the measurements are made the second photo shows the new board with the needed rabbet cuts and that the board is cut to length. The old piece is see just above the replacement board. The third photo shows the board being fit into place once the edges have been shaped to match the lines of the car. The board was then put in place with the use of a biscuit cutter and biscuits.
